Snow shoeing is an excellent way to explore all of Lake Mountain during the white season. Hire a set of snow shoes from the on-mountain Rentals department and the entire Cross-country ski trail network becomes yours to explore.
Additionally, when snow conditions permit, the exclusive 5km Snow Shoe Trail Loop creates an amazing opportunity to discover Lake Mountain’s heath.
Discover the beautiful alpine environment with our Winter Walks. Options include;
Summit Walk – 5km return
Reach the highest point of Lake Mountain, and enjoy the breathtaking views over the valley below. The walk begins with a moderate incline from ‘Gerratys Car Park’ in the Village area, then levels into a gentle climb, with beautiful lookouts along the way.
Leadbeaters Walk – 600m return
This walk leaves from the SE corner of Gerraty’s Car Park. This walk talks you through the regenerating Alpine Ash forest, being ideal for young children. During the White Season it offers many opportunities for snow play and is particularly beautiful after fresh snowfalls. Interpretative signs along the walk highlight the impact of both the 1939 and 2009 fires and relics from the timber logging era.
Bjarne Dahl Memorial Walk – 500m return
A wheel chair accessible boardwalk at Snowy Hill cap park, where the first skiers on Lake Mountain tried their skills in the 1920’s. Signage outlines the characteristics of Snow Gums and Alpine Ash, the two eucalypts which dominate this plateau, as well as the skiing history of the area and the impacts of fire on these forests.
