Tobogganing and Snow Play

About tobogganing

With the closest snow to Melbourne (2-hour drive from Melbourne), our little mountain is the easiest way to let your kids enjoy the fun of building a snowman or tobogganing down a slope. It’s a great day for the whole family, as you can participate in tobogganing or snow play at your own pace!

At Lake Mountain, we have three toboggan runs, two of which are ticketed. The Village toboggan run and Mini toboggan runs both require a Toboggan Park access ticket, which is valid for both runs. These two toboggan runs are topped up with man-made snow throughout the season and allow the use of the Magic Carpets to help transport you from the bottom of the run, back to the top. The third toboggan run is Koala Creek toboggan run which does not require a ticket, however it will only be open if the natural snow is suitable.

Toboggan Park Access Tickets

Access the Village toboggan run & Mini toboggan runs all day for $20.00 pp (children under 5yrs are free when entering with a full paying adult), with tickets purchased at the resort on the day.

Village toboggan run & Mini toboggan run – Require a ticket for entry + a certified moulded plastic toboggan

Koala Creek toboggan run- FREE entry. Only open if the snow conditions are suitable.

Snowplay

Take a break from skiing to experience the fun of snow play Melbourne loves to get involved in. Build your first snowman, throw a sneaky snowball, or maybe just carve yourself a snow angel. There’s plenty of space for all of your snow play activities on our mountain, with other families enjoying the day out, your kids will also get to socialise as they snow play.

What you’ll need

Before you head from Marysville to Lake Mountain it’s worth stopping off to pick up last minute supplies or rent some extra gear. You will avoid the queues up on the mountain and enjoy the pleasant surrounds of this beautiful country town.

Do I have to prebook anything? select-arrow

Resort entry tickets are only required during the declared snow season (June 8th to October 6th 2024).

Resort Entry tickets can be purchased at the gate on the day or pre-purchased online via our website.

Lake Mountain Alpine Resort is subject to closure once the car parks have reached full capacity. This generally occurs over the weekends during the Victorian School Holiday period. To avoid disappointment during these high demand days, we recommend pre-purchasing your resort entry ticket online a few days prior as there will be no tickets available to purchase on the day if the carparks have been filled. Once filled, entry will be based on a 1 in 1 out system which can involve an extended wait time of several hours.

What’s a toboggan? select-arrow

Pronounced TO-BOG-GAN,  a long light and narrow plastic-moulded sled (a vehicle that slides over snow) sometimes curved up in front, used for sliding down slopes. It’s a lot of fun!

At Lake Mountain, we have our main village toboggan run and a couple other toboggan runs depending on snow conditions. For more information on tobogganing, you can read our tobogganing safety tips article here.

Toboggans are available for hire from our rental department on resort, with prices for the 2024 season here!

I don’t have any snow gear, can I hire some? select-arrow

Yes, you can!

Our on-mountain equipment and clothing hire outlet stocks a large range of sizes in both shell and insulated jackets and pants. As well as snow boots to keep your feet nice and dry. If wanting to XC-Ski we also have equipment available for those in our snow sports department.

The only things you cannot hire are gloves, socks, goggles and beanies, due to hygiene regulations.

Don’t stress though, we have a range of kids through to adults gloves and beanies for sale in our retail shop up on the mountain. With gloves starting from around $20, you’ll be set to tackle the wintery conditions.
