Lake Mountain Alpine Resort is one of Victoria’s officially designated alpine resort and is operated by Alpine Resorts Victoria.
More widely known for the snow season, Lake Mountain Alpine Resort is a year-round resort with plenty of options to suit families, adventurers, and the Wildflower enthusiast.
Lake Mountain Alpine Resort has the distinction of being the closest alpine snow resort to Melbourne, just a short 2 hours drive – featuring over 35 km of world-class cross country skiing trails and plenty of activities for first-time visitors to the snow. Our little mountain is set up to make it easy for people of any age and ability to drive up the mountain at any time of the year, step out of their car and start enjoying the experience of outdoor adventure.
During the snow season, Lake Mountain turns into a winter wonderland with plenty of fun for the whole family. Enjoy the snow for the very first time with designated snow play areas, or hire a toboggan and hit the three toboggan runs for some truly unadulterated fun. If you’re looking for something a little slower then why not give snowshoeing a try? We have lessons and guided tours that can be organised through our Snowsports Department, as well as snow gear and equipment for hire.
Beginner Snowboard lessons are available for children 5-14 years of age. Beginner Cross Country Ski lessons are available for people from the age of 4 upwards.
Once the snow melts, our little mountain starts to turn into a burst of colour with the wildflowers starting to bloom. We offer guided Wildflower walks from November through to January.
The most recent addition to the adventures at Lake Mountain Alpine Resort is the recently completed single track mountain bike trail. Cascades was completed in 2019 with single track from the resort village to Marysville.
From 1 October 2022, all Victorian resorts united and have become Alpine Resorts Victoria (ARV).
Alpine Resorts Victoria is the result of Government reforms to make Alpine Boards more efficient. Created by merging Victoria’s four alpine resort management boards, Alpine Resorts Victoria will govern Falls Creek, Mt Hotham, Mt Buller, Mt Stirling, Lake Mountain and Mt Baw Baw resorts.
The alpine sector is an important contributor to regional economies. In winter alone, these resorts collectively contribute nearly $1.1 billion to the Victorian economy, attracting one million visitors and sustaining nearly ten thousand jobs.
Existing leases with Alpine Resort Management Boards will be transferred to the new Alpine Resorts Victoria with no changes to their terms and conditions. The Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP) will take on the strategic policy functions of the former Alpine Resorts Coordinating Council.
This change follows consultation with a range of stakeholders, including industry, local government and the resort management boards. There is broad support for creating a single entity to ensure the long-term sustainability of the alpine industry and tourism while ensuring the resorts are operating financially sustainably.
A stakeholder reference group will also be established to ensure key interests including industry representatives, Traditional Owners and local government have input in the transition to the new body.
Importantly, Traditional Owners and Aboriginal Victorians will also be represented on the new Alpine Resorts Victoria board to ensure management decisions consider their significant local knowledge and enduring connection to the Country.
