Road Conditions   

Lake Mountain Road Conditions

This report is for the road from Marysville to the Lake Mountain Village carpark.

Two wheel drive cars and buses: Lake Mountain Alpine Resort decides each day if wheel chains have to be carried and/or fitted.

Four wheel drive and all wheel drive cars are NOT required to fit or carry wheel chains at Lake Mountain but must engage 4WD where directed.

 If required, wheel chains MUST be fitted where directed. Do not drive past the 'fit chains here' signs.

Wheel chains are available for hire in Marysville and Narbethong which are both along the route to Lake Mountain.

  Driving Tips for Mountain Roads:

  • Drive carefully. Be patient with other road users.
  • Drive on your side of the road.
  • Brake BEFORE corners.
  • Use your gears to slow the car especially when going downhill on wet or icy roads.
  • Fit wheel chains as directed when the road is icy.

Chains are compulsory only on declared days but recommended to be carried at all times for your safety. Ensure your car battery is in good shape.
