Lake Mountain utilises various types of grooming equipment. Classic tracks are set by machines which press two grooves into the snow. These grooves act as channels for the skis. Other machines pack the middle of the trail to a firm, flat surface for skate skiers.

Over 30 kilometres of groomed trails

The total ski trail system at Lake Mountain is 37 kilometres. Heavy snowfalls allow even greater trail grooming to be carried out. No grooming is carried out on Long Heath, Boundary Hut and Little Echo Loop trails.

The groomer, when snow conditions allow, will use a tiller to break up ice and firm snow and and then re-groom the new surface. This provides a great skiing surface even when surrounding snow conditions may be less favourable.

Ski trail and slope preparation

 The weather and snow conditions determine how and if the trails and toboggan slopes can be groomed. When conditions are conducive for trail and slope preparation Lake Mountain's experienced staff will make every effort to to maximise the ski and snow play experience for visitors.

In good conditions, ski trail and slope preparations will be undertaken with the Husky Prinoth and LMC grooming machines. On days where conditions are not conducive for the use of the heavier machinery or on those marginal days of snow, snowmobiles and associated devices will be utilised.
